World Mental Health Week at Clay 🧠💘

It’s world mental health week, which means during the last couple of days the Bricks have been participating in workshops at the Clay office that can improve our mental health. These workshops are organized with the aim to start conversations about mental health and the things in our daily lives that can affect it in a positive (or negative) way. It is a yearly event where we have the opportunity to shine a light on mental health from a global perspective, and of course, we wouldn’t be Clay if we didn’t grab this opportunity with both hands!

Why?

We work on our bodies in the gym (well, some of us), but we are usually neglecting what’s happening in our minds, even though what’s happening up there makes a huge impact on the way we move through our day! It has a ripple effect on our moods, and the way we collaborate, think, and function.

The beauty of it? Mindfulness is something we can do ourselves, without a doctor, prescription, or three-day retreat in the mountains of Austria! It's about the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

This week we have been given the chance to get familiar with breath work, our values, and how daily movement can maximize our minds’ capabilities.

Read on to find out valuable tips for mental health and motivation from the Bricks.

The three workshops we participated in:

We learned how to decompress during a breathe work session followed by a relaxing sound bath.

OpenUp hosted a webinar to discover our values. We’ve what’s important to us and how we can live by our values.

Physiotherapists David & Aniek talked about daily movement to prevent pain, injury and maximise the minds capabilities in a balanced way.

Tips to maintain your mental health & motivation from the Bricks:

Fernanda, Dev-Ops Engineer

”Be grateful for your privileges every day. Even if they seem small. For example: be grateful you have two eyes, a house to sleep in, etc. Usually numerating my privileges makes my dark times easier. Especially the stuff we take for granted.”

Kristin, Marketing Manager

“The five-second rule (based on a 🚀-launch) was created by Mel Robbins and helps me to move from thinking to taking action. From getting out of bed on a cold, dark day to speaking my mind, it helps me to not get stuck in the same circle and actually take action”

Mary, Backend Engineer

“On the lock screen of my phone, I have a quote that says 'any idea is valuable if it's implemented' (translated from Ukrainian). When you have many options to choose from, have doubts about which one is the best, and are afraid to make a wrong choice, it reminds me all options are good. Most probably it's going to be fine and you won't regret your choice. Any action is usually much better than doing nothing (even if you have doubts). Even if it doesn't work out, you will learn something valuable from it.”

Xander, Data Engineering intern

“When you are stuck, dare to ask questions, and when you lose motivation, visualize your goals to make them more obtainable.

Focus on solutions, not problems. ”

Arlind, Dev-Ops Engineer

“Happy Mental Health Awareness Week!

My advice? Don’t ruin a fresh new week by focusing on the setbacks of last week.

A new week is a fresh start!”

Julia, HR & Recruitment

“One thing I do that helps me keep on track is creating a little list for my week's intentions I create in Notion, like the below example. It's a great feeling when you check them off, it makes me want to do even more.”
